Capsule Wardrobe Part 1- "Toppings"

I've been pretty quiet on the blogging front this week so far and if I'm honest it's because I've been a) poorly b) chilling doing not much and c) busy sping cleaning. Whilst doing the conflicting stated a, b and c, I spent some time pondering over a capsule wardrobe. Lets face it most women have more clothes than the necessary and wonder why they can't have just what they need. I'm plenty guilty of an expanding wardrobe, however I'm fairly good at rotating it. What goes unworn for a while goes, however it's quickly replaced as I do love a eBay bargain.

So that's when I thought about this mini project starting with tops, shirts, vests etc. I will do "bottoms" next and then go on to others sub categories.

Now I know a capsule wardrobe is meant to be compact and not excessive (believe me I'm trying) but this perhaps may not appear so. These blogs posts are based on all weather and what I couldn't be without, so there may seem a bit too much but I'm being honest with this and being realistic to myself.

So let's start.

A printed blouse/shirt thats wearable with leggings or jeans- dressed up or down. This Zara blouse is gorgeous and works well in warmer weather with white skinny jeans, pale denim jeans turned up with sandals or even with denim or khaki shorts. For colder weather its a nice way to brighten up layers or darker skinny jeans or leggings, vests underneath and a parka or biker. Perhaps even a sweatshirt over the top, cuffs poking through and a statement necklace.

For a less fussy look stick to one coloured print like the Topshop one.

A white shirt- a complete classic that can be worn just as I described above for the floral shirt. It would also work lovely with a leather skirt (tights in the winter) with converse and a denim jacket dressed down and with some stilettos and a patterned jacket for a dressier version. Next have a lovely offering that although isn't long enough to wear with leggings it's a trendy tailored take on a mans shirt. Zara also have a lovely shirt without turn up cuffs.

Sticking with shirts a tartan shirt is another all year must have and with plenty of options you'll struggle to find a colourway that's not for you! Slinging a checked shirt on in the morning means you don't have to worry too much on anything else. The Next option is a lovely blue colour and the longer sleeveless shirt can look great with shiny leggings and converse if you are sick of jeans!

A Breton top. Stripes are always going to be around and I really like this take on a breton top from Next and Zara. I like how they are floaty enough to be cool in warmer weather and perfect to layer underneath when its colder. You can't beat a breton and white jeans combo in the summer but with black leather you can give instantly make it a edgy look. A leopard print scarf looks great too!

One thing that I certainly can't be without is a animal logo top, perfect for throwing on a top and jeans day, clashing with other prints or with a leather skirt. The first one is a Topshop take on the more expensive designer option by Kenzo, but if this one is too in your face the Next option is perfect.

Now for something pretty but fear not lace can easily be edgy for girls like me! Or do the opposite and girly up some boyfriend jeans. This Matalan blouse is not only very reasonable its Navy so works well with anything and there is no worry of dropping spag bol down you! Brightly coloured contrast acessories would give it a great up to date look.

Now this one most of you will already have, the denim shirt. I'm not a fan of the tighter fit shirts myself simply because I don't feel comfortable enough and I find the oversized variety much more wearable. This Zara option is long enough to be worn with leggings but equally looks great with skinnys or tucked into a leather skirt. I would also add a pop of colour with a statement necklace, scarf or shoes.

Now for a bit more pattern this blouse worn with dark skinny jeans, khaki trousers or shorts for a daytime look or add heels and a leather skirt for a lovely dressed up outfit. This Whistles option may not be as cheap as the other items but its a great sale buy for a gorgeous shirt. For a bit less in your face the Topshop vest will work great with a black jacket, to dress it up a bit more wear it with a patterned tube skirt or bright skinny jeans.

We're lacking colour so lets change that. Whilst bright pinks are always lovely to brighten up a look, red is a great option as will work just as well come christmas! One bright that I have in my own wardrobe is yellow in the neon variety. Both will look great with denim or even against black and white prints.

Metallics and glitz doesn't need to be just for nights out, if you want to quickly throw on a top and not have to think about anything else other than your bottoms choice then this top is perfect for you. Everyone needs some form of a sparkly top and worn with some tailored ankle trousers and heels you have a lovely night out outfit too.

Now for the basics, they may not always be worn but I bet you that without them there will be times you really wish you had some. Lets talk vests, not only are they brilliant for layering extra warmth, they work just as well for covering your modesty in sheer tops and are great to pair up with printed bottoms. I especially like the longer versions that cover your bum, these can be picked up very cheap in Primark and H&M. Key colours have to be white, black, khaki, nude and a bright that suits your colouring.

Don't discount a plain tshirt either. I love Topshop for those but again you can pick up some great versions in H&M and Primark. Perfect pairing for a statement necklace and boyfriend jeans.

The one below is from Topshop and just £10. Hopefully this has been helpful, lookout for the next blog on 'bottoms' followed by dresses for either day or night, shoes & accessories and finishing up with jumpers, jackets and coats.

How to wear the black boyfriend blazer.

It would appear I'm converted to the blazer this one from Next is comfortable and gives a smarter touch but in a laid back way. Make sense? Perhaps not, but it works. Take a look at my three style crushes below Fearne Cotton, Gwen Stefani and Shenae Grimes for different looks. It doesn't have to be dressed up, they work just as well dressed down.

☆The gorgeous floaty dress I'm wearing is years old and from gap. I love how versatile it is for any season alone or with bottoms.

☆The jeans again are years old and from River Island, I dip dyed the hell out of them last year.

☆Converse. My uniform shoe.

I

One look I really like and will be wearing sometime soon is the blazer over a maxi. Watch this space!

Metallic Cross Body Bags and a Dip Dye Maxi Dress

Looks as though summer is here- whoop! So out comes the maxi again, this one is from George @ Asda and I love the dip dye effect, it's a heavy jersey material, super comfortable and perfect for keeping up with the kids.

Keeping up with the metallic look this bag nails it. Perfect for the day or night it matches anything and brings any outfit up to date. I brought this one myself from eBay but the brand is Kimchi and can be found on polyvore for instance. See below for some more options!

The jacket? If you don't already know this is from Tesco's, where have you been?! I love it!

Sports luxe does a aztec midi.

Another mixing things up look post and this time it's a sporty twist with a little help from a Adidas zip up.

The T-Shirt is Next and was a must have item that I mentioned in my Next Blogger of May interview. It's fab for dressing up and down.

The aztec midi skirt is New Look and again another great dress down or up item.

The bag is from Tesco's Florence and Fred range that I brought with my competition winnings. They have some great pieces at brilliant prices. Don't overlook them as I've been pleasantly surprised recently. The team are also great and very kindly (unexpectedly) wrote up a grear review on my blog!

Of course I'm in my fave Converse after all I needed comfy flats for my childfree day at Thorpe Park!

The one where I finally 'do' a blazer... in red!

I've sat on the fence long enough and for someone who doesn't really like red other than my lipstick I've surprised myself this time too. So let's brighten things up, as promised in my Next interview I've plenty more Next looks up my sleeve starting with this!

☆This gorgeous red blazer is Next, I've rolled the sleeves up slightly. A eye catching blazer is the perfect way to make a outfit pop and after spying the celebs outfits below, I know the outfit I've got lined up for this next!

☆My jeans are my old faithfuls from Replay,  brought in Venice on our honeymoon almost 8 years ago. Oh and they are mens! Boyfriend jeans are still hot on the scene and a firm fave of mine, recently it would appear the more torn up the better!

☆The oversized bucket bag is a stunner from good old Zara, it's real leather and aging like a beauty. The best bit is it's back in stock now!

☆The flatforms are Primark, not quite red but more of a coral.

☆Then the shirt with it's embellished collar is h&m. Brought a couple of months back and has been waiting patiently for its outing. It was still in stock when I last was in h&m but I can't find it online!

One last thing to mention as one of the resident bloggers over at Trendlife Magazine you can catch up on blogs from me like these and similar!  Check the site out there's lots to see, my first blog will be up soon!

Thankyou Florence and Fred!

I've mentioned this briefly in a post before but I am so thrilled about it that I had to say a quick thankyou on a separate post!

The lovely team over at Florence and Fred have given me a great review over on their "What Florence and Fred loves" blog.

"Are you looking for ways to wear different prints, double denim, statement necklaces or a power look to get you noticed? Then your search is over!"

Totally unexpected and I had no idea right up to them sending me the link! You can take a peek at why I'm so thrilled over here!

Khaki chinos, hot pink pumps and denim.

The sun is shining. How many times have you read that today? A lot I bet! Today we squeezed in errands, a windmill, a nice long walk and we even ended up on a film set.

Topshop chinos these Next ones are similar. I roll mine up a bit more so they don't look so formal!
Warehouse denim shirt, old stock I'm afraid but one of my best buys!
Florence and Fred lace pumps. These seem to be out of stock now!
Primark sunglases

Oh and my new take on crazy messy hair. I had booked in to chop it back to a pixie crop but decided against it on the day.

Also a big thankyou to the Florence and Fred gal's and guy's for featuring me in their What F&F loves blog post
